Huvis, a chemical fiber company (President Shin Yoo-dong, 079980), made a business agreement with Jakomo, a sofa brand (President Park Gyeong-boon), for contributing to the spread of eco-friendly products in the furniture and bedding market by using eco-friendly fillers that are harmless to the human body and the environment, the company announced on the 2nd.
Key personnel from three companies were present at the signing ceremony held at Huvis’ main office on May 31, including Huvis president Shin Yoo-dong, Jakomo president Park Gyeong-boon, and Dolldam president Lee Joo-young.
Ahead of signing this MOU, Huvis had been working with Dolldam, a non-woven fabric manufacturer, for supplying eco-friendly fillers for bedding and furniture since 2017. The company plans to use this MOU as an opportunity to further strengthen collaboration among the three companies (Huvis, Dolldam, Jakomo), thereby leading the eco-friendly filler market.
Under this agreement, Huvis will supply toxic substance-free staple fiber products to Jakomo, which, in turn, will manufacture sofas using padding products made from Huvis fiber. Huvis and Jakomo will also work together to develop and launch biodegradable products in an effort to further tackle other environmental issues.
Founded in 1986, and marking its 37th anniversary this year, Jakomo is an established sofa brand that has been maintaining its No.1 position in the sofa market among larger competitors. Jakomo offers eco-friendly sofa products to consumers under its belief that the leathers, fabrics and even fillers used for a sofa should all be safe and harmless because a sofa is something we touch directly and stay on for the longest portion of our day.
“Our belief of making safe sofas our customers can use reliably matches the vision of Huvis pursuing technologies for a better environment and for better health, which led us to make this agreement,” said Jakomo president Park Gyeong-boon. “I hope that both Jakomo and Huvis can present various eco-friendly products through close collaboration between materials and products and become a more respected company in our society.”
Huvis president Shin Yoo-dong said, “The reality is that no matter how good the materials you develop are, they will be put out of business unless applied to the market. We are so pleased to have this opportunity to collaborate with Korea’s representative sofa brand. We will also continue to take the initiative in developing various materials that are harmless to the human body and the environment and spreading them across the market.”
