Huvis (CEO Kim, Suk Hyun, 079980), specializing in chemical and fiber materials, announced on the 20th that it received the Stone Tower Order of Industrial Service Merit at the 60th Invention Day ceremony hosted by the Korea Intellectual Property Office and the Korea Invention Promotion Association on the 19th. Invention Day is held to award and honor inventors who have contributed to national industrial development.
At the event, Lee, Min Sung, Team Leader of the Huvis R&D Center, was awarded the Stone Tower Order of Industrial Service Merit for developing adhesive materials for automotive interior components, securing global competitiveness, and contributing to the development of the domestic materials industry. Lee joined the Central Research Institute of Samyang Corporation, the parent company of Huvis, in 1995. He served as a senior researcher responsible for materials development at Huvis, which was established in 2000 through a joint venture between Samyang Corporation and SK Chemicals. Since 2010, he has been serving as a team leader at the R&D Center.
Lee played a pivotal role in developing LMF (Low Melting Fiber), Huvis' flagship product. LMF is the world's first adhesive polyester fiber that does not use isophthalic acid, featuring a low-melting-point characteristic that enables its use in various industrial applications, including automotive interior materials, industrial filters, and furniture. It holds the top global market share and is highly regarded for replacing harmful chemical bonds with fibers.
Additionally, the specialty LMF product, 'Black Dope Dyed LM,' achieves the deep and vivid black color required for automotive materials and offers diversified melting temperatures, playing a crucial role in generating the company’s revenue.
Furthermore, Lee played a significant role in securing Huvis' selection as a ‘Global Top Specialty’ company in the materials, parts, and equipment sector in 2023 by commercializing meta-aramid super fibers for the first time in Korea, which were previously entirely imported. He also launched cooling fibers utilizing high-strength polyethylene, leading the domestic summer materials market, and has obtained a total of 73 patents, including joint inventions, contributing to enhancing the competitiveness of the materials industry.
“This award is not merely an honor for an individual but a testament to the collective research and development capabilities and technological innovation efforts of the entire Huvis organization. Moving forward, we will continue to strengthen our global competitiveness and lead the way in advancing the self-reliance and development of the domestic materials industry,” said Kim, Suk Hyun, CEO of Huvis.
