Huvis (CEO Kim, Suk Hyun, 079980) announced on the 20th of this month that its Black Dope dyed LM (Low Melting Fiber), a dope dyed polyester fabric product, and ecoen, a biodegradable polyester fabric product, were selected as the Current World Class Product of Korea and Next Generation World Class Product of Korea, respectively, at the World-Class Product Certificate Award Ceremony 2024 hosted by MoTIE and organized by KOTRA. With this selection, Huvis now has 8 Current World Class Products and 7 Next Generation World Class Products, making a total of 15 World Class Products of Korea.
World Class Products of Korea are selected annually by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (MoTIE) and the Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA) with the goal of discovering and developing products that are competent in the global market and promoting exports. World Class Product of Korea is divided into two categories: Current World Class Product of Korea for products that are in the top 5 in global market share or have a global market share of 5% or more, and Next Generation World Class Product of Korea for products that have the potential to meet the requirements of Current World Class Product of Korea within the next 7 years.
Selected for this year’s Current World Class Product, the Black Dope dyed LM is a yarn that has achieved deep and clear colors required for automotive materials through conjugated spinning in black color on the core part and features superior blackness and color fastness to post-processing dyeing. In addition to a yarn with a melting point of 110°C, it can also be produced as a high-heat resistant yarn that can withstand up to 180°C, which is suitable for automotive materials. Moreover, it is an environmentally friendly thermal adhesive that produces no volatile organic compounds (VOCs) during processing, making it popular as a fiber adhesive for use not only in automobiles but also in a wide range of other applications, including construction, interior decoration, filtration, and bedding.
Selected this year as a Next Generation World Class Product, ecoen is a high-heat resistant biodegradable polyester fiber that can be biodegraded by micro-organisms within 3 years of burial. In ASTM tests to verify biodegradability, it showed high biodegradation rates: 92.2% after 807 days of land burial (ASTM D5511) and 90.7% after 813 days in the marine environment (ASTM 6691). It is an environmentally friendly product as it is designed to be buried instead of being incinerated after use, and therefore does not produce any toxic gases, including carbon dioxide. In addition, ecoen has excellent durability and heat resistance compared to polylactic acid (PLA), and many R&D projects are underway to expand its application to other eco-friendly products, including clothing and banners.
“Black Dope dyed LM, which was selected as a World Class Product, is a differentiated product of LMF, which has the largest global market share, and ecoen, which was selected as a Next Generation World Class Product, is a high-temperature resistant biodegradable fiber that demonstrates the superior technology and competitiveness of high-value eco-friendly specialty products that Huvis has accumulated over the years,” said Park, Sung Yoon, director of Huvis R&D Center. “We will continue to strengthen our R&D capabilities and expand our portfolio of customized products based on our strong market understanding.”
Meanwhile, Huvis has proven its global technological prowess by producing World Class Products every year, including the selection as a World Class Product of the short-cut fiber brand ‘Minimax’ in 2023 and the selection as a Next Generation World Class Product of eco-friendly recycled fiber ‘Ecoever’ in 2022.
