Huvis appoints Kim Seok-hyun as new CEO

2023-12-01

Huvis (079980), specializing in chemical and fiber materials, announced the appointment of Kim Seok-hyun, 54, as its new CEO on December 1st. The new CEO will be tasked with turning around the company’s performance crisis and getting it back on track.

Kim is from Naju, Jeollanam-do. He graduated from Gwangju High School, Chonnam National University (Economics), and Korea University Business School. In 1994, he joined SK Chemicals (formerly Sunkyung Textiles), the parent company of Huvis.

When Huvis was launched in 2000 as a joint venture between Samyang and SK Chemicals, Kim oversaw strategic planning. Subsequently, in 2002, he actively contributed to the establishment of Huvis Sichuan in China. Transitioning to Huvis Sichuan in 2004, he served as the head of finance for six years, improving liquidity and securing financial strength. His efforts were instrumental in the company's successful turnaround in 2009.
In 2012, he spearheaded Huvis' successful initial public offering. Since 2013, he has held key roles in HR and business strategy, eventually being appointed as the head of the HR Development Division in 2021. He will be appointed as CEO at the general meeting of shareholders and board meeting next year.

Huvis holds the top position in both production of chemical and fiber materials and production of differentiated products in Korea. The company operates plants in Jeonju, Korea, along with facilities in China and the United States. Additionally, it houses its R&D center in Daejeon. The company has been experiencing poor performance owing to the recent global economic downturn and international political uncertainties. However, it plans to overcome these challenges through efforts such as optimizing operations and strengthening its portfolio of differentiated products.
