Huvis (CEO Shin, You Dong, 079980), specializing in chemical and fiber materials, announced on the 21st that it will participate in the DX Korea 2022, which is to be held in Kintex in the city of Goyang, Gyeonggi, from September 21 to 25, to showcase its state-of-the-art fabric technologies and products with a view to enhancing its specialty in defense materials.
Celebrating its fifth anniversary this year, the event is an internationally certified defense exhibition that is hosted by the Association of the Republic of Korea Army and is organized by the Defense Expo. Featuring a wide range of exhibits under the themes of weapon systems, warrior platforms, international affairs, drones & robots, navigation systems, and international space, along with academic conventions, this year will be the largest in scale ever, welcoming representatives from the Korean government and its agencies, Korean companies, privileged guests from over 60 countries’ governments, and representatives from over 30 international businesses from such countries as the United States, Germany and Israel.
As a new participant, Huvis will showcase its wide range of products, ranging from smart fabric to super fiber and also eco-friendly and highly functional textiles, discussing how they can be applied to textile products intended for military use. Textiles are an essential element of military supplies that service members use during drills and life at their barracks. Since it has a profound impact on their combat capability and quality of life, the armed forces of Korea are considering pro-actively adopting state-of-the-art technologies from the private sector.
Among Huvis’ products to be showcased at the event is a heat-generating smart fabric from Soliyarn, a U.S. based smart fabric startup. Military gloves made of the fabric provide good heat conductivity, increasing combat capability in harsh weather conditions. This heat-generating capability and suitability have already been proven enough as they are already supplied to the U.S. armed forces. Last May, Huvis signed a deal through its subsidiary Huvis Global to acquire 25 percent stake in Soliyarn.
As a product incorporating super fiber, the company will showcase MetaOne, its brand name for meta-aramid, which is widely used for special firefighter clothing thanks to its exceptional resistance to flame. As the first meta-aramid fiber ever to be developed in Korea, MetaOne also has high plausibility for being used for combat uniforms thanks to its resistance to temperatures as high as over 400 degrees While also featuring good insulation from electricity. Duraron, another Huvis brand well known for its exceptional resistance to abrasion and being cut, will be presented as having good potential to be used for military purpose safety gloves. Duraron-Cool, which has been particularly popular this summer thanks to its fast heat conductivity and cool-to-the-touch feel, also has potential for use in off-duty T shirts for service members in the summer.
Ecoen, the company’s polyester fabric, which is biodegradable within 3 years after being placed in landfill, will be presented as another possible material for year-round off-duty wear. Huvis will also showcase its other highly functional textile products that can be used for military purpose masks, beddings, sleeping bags, and winter wear.
“With the recent rising interest in K-Defense, we are excited to showcase the exceptional quality and technological capability of our products at this event that will feature state-of-the-art defense products,” says a source of Huvis. “We will expand our contribution to higher combat capability and quality of life for military service members by offering better defense textiles based on our advanced fiber technologies including smart fabric, super fiber and highly functional, eco-friendly textiles.” <The End>
