The Jeonju Factory of Huvis, specializing in chemical and fiber materials, announced on the 9th that they will step up efforts into ESG management under the slogan of Huvis Carbon Diet 2021 to reach net-zero status by 2050.
Net-zero 2050 signifies a corporate commitment to reduce net carbon emissions to zero by mitigating greenhouse gas emissions from the use of fossil fuel, etc. and planting trees or investing in renewable energy programs.
Huvis Carbon Diet 2021 is a campaign designed to minimize carbon footprints in all aspects of production/business activities at its worksites in terms of fuel, electricity, equipment, supplies, and other indicators. To that end, Huvis Jeonju Factory organized an energy committee early this year tasked with programs to raise energy efficiency, reuse methane gas emitted from waste water treatment plants, and recover waste heat from production plants in a bid to reduce carbon emissions. The factory also vows to remain committed to carbon neutrality by adopting highly efficient equipment and migrating to renewable energy.
Furthermore, an annual competition for carbon footprint reduction ideas will be launched for the staff members of Jeonju Factory and ideas selected in the competition will be implemented in office and production sites to show the staff members and their families how easy it is for them to contribute to reducing carbon emissions in their daily routines.
As a part of the campaign, Huvis Jeonju Factory is launching net-zero programs in partnership with local communities for environmental protection and CSR fulfillment. The Nature-Loving Club of the factory employees and their families clean and weed river basins in Jeonju City every year and host theNature-Loving Green Mind Composition and Painting Festival for elementary/middle school students in the Jeonbuk region to help local residents contribute to carbon neutrality.
Huvis is further enhancing its presence as a forerunner of eco-friendly products, successfully commercializing Korea’s first-ever biodegradable polyester fiber brand, ECOEN, biodegradable within three years once reclaimed underground, and deploying an in-house recycled yarn production facility capable of producing chips recycled from PET bottle waste.
An official at Huvis Jeonju Factory said, “Huvis Carbon Diet 2021 campaign will also involve more specific planning and proactive execution for achieving net-zero status,’ and added, “We will continue to bolster internal resources for carbon neutrality to ensure shared growth with local communities.”
