Huvis CEO You Dong Shin participates in the “No plastic” campaign, “Go Go Challenge”

2021-03-18

Specializing in chemical materials, Huvis CEO Shin, You Dong participated in the “Go Go Challenge” relay campaign on the 18th, which is a movement intended to reduce the use of plastic in everyday life and protect the environment.

The “Go Go Challenge” is a social media campaign that was initiated by the Ministry of Environment earlier this year, through which the participants promise to do one thing that must be done and to not do one thing that must not be done with the goal of reducing the use of plastic in everyday life. Participants must also then appoint the next participants to carry on with the campaign.

Appointed by Eui Yeol Lee, President of Daegu Gyeongbuk Textile Industries Association, Shin resolved to “reduce products with carbon emissions and increase recyclable/biodegradable products”.
“About 350 million tons of plastic are produced every year, but only 9% of those are being recycled,” said Shin. “With waste plastic recently rising as a global issue, Huvis is also striving to develop biodegradable/recyclable materials. We will continue with our efforts to protect the environment by taking the initiative in developing eco-friendly materials that contribute to the ‘no plastic, zero waste’ movement.”

Huvis has recently developed a new biodegradable PET fiber that has a special reaction incurred by adding biomass to the existing type of polyester fiber. With similar properties as polyester, it can be dyed and ironed, and biodegrades within 3 years when buried after use. The company is also focusing on selling eco-friendly materials, such as recycled fiber made from discarded plastic bottles.

Shin appointed Korea Vilene President Kwang Kim, Young Textile President Jeong-gyu Yoon, and Samyang Packaging CEO Deok-Hee Jo as the next relay participants.
