“To ensure one meal a day for students at risk of missing meals during school vacation”
Huvis(CEO Shin, You Dong), specializing in chemical and fiber materials carried out the ‘Dream Project: One Meal a Day During School Vacation’ that provides one meal a day during school vacation for elementary school students from low-income families nearby. A total of 252 students from Palbok, Jochon and Banwoul Elementary Schools in Jeonju were selected, and the support funding was presented on July 9 at Palbok Elementary School.
Marking its 9th year, the ‘Dream Project! One Meal a Day During Vacation’ began in 2012 to provide one meal a day for students at risk of skipping meals during school vacation. The beneficiaries are elementary schools that are recipients of the national basic livelihood security, from single-parent families, or from secondary lower-income families. The support funds are presented every year before summer and winter vacation. These funds are used to provide students with restaurant coupons that can be used in nearby restaurants or for buying groceries such as rice and side dishes that can be directly delivered to their homes.
“Summer vacation is supposed to be fun and exciting, but it’s not really fun for underfed children,” said Hyun Jong Chul, General Manager of Huvis Jeonju Plant. “They need to eat a lot to grow up properly, which is why they need warm care from us grown-ups. Hopefully, this project offering a small but valuable meal helps these children grow up healthy without skipping meals and help them realize bigger dreams in life.”
