ECOPET, the eco-friendly food container material developed by chemical materials specialist Huvis (079980, CEO Shin, You Dong), won the IR52 Jang Young-shil Award in Week 9.
The IR52 Jang Young-shil Award is presented to technology developers at corporate research centers that are leading technological innovation through the development and commercialization of new technologies and products, and is co-hosted by Maeil Business Newspaper and Korea Industrial Technology Association.

ECOPET is a sheet-type PET foam material free of endocrine-disrupting chemicals. When applied to food containers, it can be microwaved and has excellent thermal insulation to keep food warm for a long time. It is certified as non-toxic by the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). By successfully making up for the weaknesses of other food containers while having the advantage of a recyclable material, ECOPET won the grand prize at the Korea Star Awards 2017, as well as the Asia Star Awards and World Star Awards.

ECOPET was first released in April 2019 and was used for home meal replacement (HMR) containers for convenience stores in Korea. Huvis signed an agreement to establish Chongqing Huvis Eco Pack Materials Company Limited, a joint venture with a Chinese food container company last December. Huvis plans to enter the Chinese market by establishing manufacturing facilities in China this year.
ECOPET is also widely used in many fields aside from food containers, such as car interior materials, electronic component protectors, and structural materials for construction.
