Chemical materials specialist Huvis(CEO Shin, You-dong, 079980) announced on the 19th that it has jointly received the New Excellent Technology (NET) authentication with Hyundai Motor Company and HADO FNC for their ‘undersurface PET felt manufacturing technology to reduce car engine and road noise’.
The NET authentication is a system run by the Korea Industrial Technology Association (KOITA) to accredit new technology that has been developed for the first time in Korea. The purpose is to promote commercialization and transfer of new technologies while improving the reliability of products applying these new technologies, thereby helping with initial market entry.
The product that has received the NET authentication is a felt material for the undersurface of a car to reduce noise incurred on the road. Cars that have been more recently released are embedded with an undersurface under the body to reduce noise when driving, generally making use of fiberglass reinforced boards. However, fiberglass is heavy, generates dust that is harmful to the human body in production, and cannot be recycled. The PET felt undersurface material developed by Huvis with Hyundai Motor Company and HADO FNC is light, has improved NVH* performance, and can be recycled, thereby making it eco-friendly.
They developed ‘Low Melting Fiber’ specialized for the undersurface by applying a copolymerization technology to Huvis’s heat sealing car material LMF and giving it stability and mobility so that the shape remains unchanged at a certain temperature, which is then applied to undersurface felt. Producing felt with this material not only reduced 15% of the weight and increased 20% of the strength compared to the fiberglass reinforced board, but it also improved sound-absorbing performance by 9 times.
Hyundai Motor Company will be gradually applying the LMF-applied car undersurface to its new car models starting in 2020.
“LMF can be applied to various fields such as architecture and interior design in addition to cars, and can also be recycled since it is polyester,” said Huvis CEO Shin, You Dong. “We will continue developing various materials that will improve the quality of life and that are friendly to the environment.”

※ What is the undersurface?
- The device is loaded on the bottom of the car body to protect all kinds of components.
- It is divided into the rear, floor and engine undersurface.
- The engine and rear undersurface, loaded where there is much heat release, are made using strong and highly heat-resistant materials to prevent deformation or deflection by heat. The floor undersurface is made using materials strong against damage from floor shock to protect the broad area.
