HUVIS launches a 'Dreams Come - True Class' for low-income students

2013-04-04

HUVIS, the leading cutting-edge chemical and fiber materials company (CEO / Yoo, Bea Keun,  www.huvis.com) unveiled Gonji Middle School as the second project of the company’s ‘Dreams Come–True Class’ campaign and carried out the opening ceremony on the 27th March. The ‘Dreams Come–True Class’ campaign was first established in 2012, and has since provided educational support to children from low-income households.

The ‘Dreams Come–True Class’ campaign is one of the company’s ‘Dreams Come–True’ projects that connect outstanding university honor students from local universities with middle school students from underprivileged low-income households, as well as also providing scholarship opportunities for college students and opportunities for middle school students to experience a quality education. The program will be carried out as an afterschool care program to enable the selected middle school students to study English and Mathematics for 4 hours per week, totaling 8 hours of afterschool studies. The tutors selected to teach these study-areas of acute need for the students were selected from a pool of university recommendations from the local Chonbuk National University and Jeonju National University of Education.

The expansion of this program follows the high satisfaction level evidenced from both teachers and students after the first implementation at Deokil Middle School last year, with the same number of approximately 30 students at Gonji Middle School now being able to benefit from this program. Ms. Lee Kyung-Hee, in charge of student education and welfare at Deokil Middle School said “the scholastic aptitude of the participating students was greatly enhanced and the college students were also very satisfied with the scholarships they received while teaching students from
their particular major field of studies.”

In addition, HUVIS has carried out various activities and supported marginalized local residents through delivering briquettes through the ‘Dreams Come–True Briquettes Delivery’ campaign, provided aid through books, desks, computers, and school supplies via the ‘Dreams Come–True Supplies Support’ campaign, ‘Dreams Come–True Lunch-box’ campaigns and more. It has pledged to continue operating its various ‘Dreams Come–True’ projects.

“HUVIS has for the past 50 years has remained, including during our time with our parent companies SK Chemical and Samyang Corporation, at the forefront of regional and local development,’ said HUVIS Director of Human Resources, Mr. Shin In-Yul. “We plan to continue this tradition and carry out various projects in support of underprivileged children and senior citizens, implementing aid projects for local residents and leading social contribution efforts across our local communities.”
