More and more people are climbing mountains or visiting parks to enjoy the autumn that has recently approached. A small amount of movement in the daytime generates beads of sweat under the warm sunlight, but the cool wind in the morning and evening lowers the body temperature and makes you catch cold more easily. This season, an effective way to maintain body temperature is to wear outdoor clothing with quick absorbing and drying functions or warm-keeping and lightweight clothing that blocks the wind and maintains body temperature.
Developed by Huvis in 2006, XN has an excellent warm-keeping function, and is ultra-lightweight. Specific gravity in the same concept with density is used as the unit of measure of the degree of lightweightness, and XN has a specific gravity of 0.93 compared to water at 1, indicating that it is so lightweight that it floats on water. Other than being the most lightweight among all textile materials, it also has a lower heat transfer coefficient than wool, making it effective in maintaining body temperature and keeping warmth even in intense cold.
Polypropylene, the raw material for XN, has the disadvantage of not being dyed easily, which has limited its use for clothing. However, Huvis completely solved this problem and developed the best outdoor material that is both warm-keeping and ultra-lightweight.
Generally, only 100% XN is used in weaving, or XN is used as an outer yarn or ‘Coolever’ with excellent quick absorbing and drying functions is used as inner yarn to improve functionality.
Coolever quickly distributes absorbed sweat and discharges it, while XN that is highly water repellent helps block moisture from the outside.
XN is commonly used in outdoor sportswear such as for golfing, hiking or cycling. It is especially used in swimwear with its high water repellent ability that makes you feel dry immediately after getting out of the water. It is also widely used in underwear due to its soft touch.
XN is sold to specialized weaved fabric companies Young Tex and Ventex and is supplied to North Face, with high sales ratios in Japan for socks and underwear. Sales are increasing gradually, as it is also used in T-shirts for firefighting garments.
<Characteristics>
- Lightweight & Soft Touch: The best lightweight material that floats on water with the lowest specific gravity among all yarns in existence
- Warm-keeping: Excellent warm-keeping ability with the lowest heat conductivity
- Waterproof & no static electricity: Has almost no affinity with water and thus has excellent water resistance without special processing
