Now, check the environment-friendly fiber label

2009-08-13

Ecoever,’ a recycled plastic bottle fiber
of Huvis (www.huvis.com / CEO Seong Hwan Mun), the nation’s largest yarn producer, was awarded an eco-label from Korea’s Ministry of Environment for the first time.

An eco-label is a mark on productsthat cause little pollution in its production and consumption and can save resources compared to products of the same use. The label was implemented in 1992. This label is an important indicator that consumers can easily check to see if products are environment-friendly and a sign they can trust when they make their purchases.
In the same recycled yarn product line, there are other products that have been certified by private certification authorities, but Huvis’ ‘Ecoever’ is an only product that has been certified by a governmental authority.

‘Ecoever,’ is a fiber extracted as yarn from collecting discarded plastic bottles. It decreases the amount of trash in landfills and reduces 30% of carbon dioxide emissions in the manufacturing process. In addition, it is an environment-friendly yarn that reduces unnecessary use of oil resources and reduces energy emissions.
We have plans to sell 240 tons this year. When 20,000 plastic bottles are recycled in the production of 1 ton, it totals to over 5 million recycled plastic bottles annually.

Because Samyang Corporation, the parent company of Huvis, collects disposed plastic bottles and provides the raw materials while Huvis produces the yarn, integrated quality management is possible. That quality was recognized with technology that can produce even microfibers by compensating for the weaknesses of standard recycled yarns. Huvis’ ‘Ecoever’ was listed as Korea’s first official recycled yarn supplied to Nike in February of this year. It is scheduled to be produced and sold as Nike sportswear during this year.

The eco-labels are managed and applied according to different product standards of each country around the world. In the case of Korea, a mutual certification was signed with Australia and New Zealand, so the involved countries’ eco-label can be used without additional screening.

Huvis’ FY Operations director, Man Gyu Kim stated, “Consumers can now purchase Huvis products with more trust because the eco-label can be attached to our Ecoever products” and predicted that the supply of yarn to famous international brands, including Nike, will increase.
Huvis is continuously planning to promote the GR (Good Recycle) Certificate and Carbon Footprint Label Certification, in addition to the eco-label.
